Finally

After the endless snow tedium today showed a glimpse of real life returning. As with almost every other school in the country we are always beset with unbelievably selfish illegal parking. Of course the snow made it worse as it would traumatise many parents to think of their ickle preciouses walking an unnecessary 100 metres. The resultant increased danger to everyone else's kids is a price well worth paying.

This morning however - cue the local bobby: taking numbers, issuing tickets and waiting for the bastards (and bastardettes) to return for a good old-fashioned telling off and public humiliation. Deep joy!

With the thaw comes the first flush of spring colours and Christmas additions to parental wardrobes. Makes the garden bird population look dowdy. Some very nicely judged orange overtan for the pretending-I've-been-the Bahamas-all-holidays crowd (popular group, that). Hidden too long under Helly Hansen and North Face blizzard wear, it brightened my day (quite literally). Surprising the snow doesn't melt faster when encountering so much radiation.

The new year starts here!

Not with a bang

A resounding disappointment. The first day back and snow heavy on the ground. The net result being nothing of interest whatsoever. Even the most ardent fashionistas failed to muster a single inappropriate ensemble. Nothing but cheery "Happy New Year"s and good-natured complaints about the weather. This jollity will not stand.

Nearly Kick-Off

Tomorrow it all begins again. I'm caught between tedium and curiosity (not so much of the latter, I'm afraid).

New Year, New Resolution

As a new term approaches, I have decided to give myself a present. I'm setting aside this eddy within the vast torrents of cyberspace for my own gibberish. I need to share my observations of the tales of ordinary playground madness. I can't believe that the school my children attend is unique but, to my deranged mind, the events of the playground merit chronicling. I will try to hide the identities (not least my own) but the details will be true, as I observe them. So there.
